For a vast number of authors, self-publishing is the way to go. Trad publishing promotes the big names with the big advances and income statements. But for the majority of traditionally-published authors, indies make a lot more money. And contrary to some, we need money to live. My royalties make it possible for me to be a full-time author. There's nothing wrong with that.
