Hi Piper. To me, the transition wasn't hard. It's still writing, telling a story. It was hard at first expanding the concepts to novel-length. It can't be on a single subject. There have to be multiple storylines running throughout the piece. Also, unlike with journalism, where you try to get the who, what, where, when and why into the lede paragraph, you need to doll that out gradually, keeping somethings secret until time for the big reveal. As far as writing fast. I write in a series. That helps. I already know my characters and the universe, as do my fans. I let the characters lead me most of the time. I develop a situation and then ask what would my heroes do at a time like this. It all comes down to logic and motivation. The characters have to be motivated to act, and then what they do must make sense.
